RH Volunteers Help Feed Hundreds

Thank you to everyone who supported this year's Christmas give-away. It was a wonderful event and successful on all fronts. We distributed holiday food to 1,405 households (a total of 4130 people). This event involved hundreds of volunteers, who together served 792 hours.

It's Admission Open House Season

You -- parents, friends, alumni, students -- are our best ambassadors and your recommendation of Rowland Hall is cited most often as the reason prospective parents investigate our educational offerings. This is the time of year when your help is most needed, and we really appreciate your spreading the word about our upcoming Admission Open Houses.

The admission offices have added the OPEN DOOR events this year. They are informal, drop-in events during which guests will be paired with a current parent for an individual or small group tour of the school. Administrators will be on-hand for follow-up questions.

Here's the 2010 Open House schedule -- it's on our website so you can refer folks there. And, in case you want to print an invitation out for a friend, here's the postcard. Thanks to every member of the Rowland Hall family for helping us fill our school with great students.

Parent Teacher Conference Request

Dear Parents,

As you are planning for or scheduling your February Parent Teacher conferences, please keep in mind that we set two days aside for parent teacher conferences for a reason.  Our faculty members are very busy, committed to using their time during the day to work with students, collaborate with other teachers, and to prepare for classes.

Teachers had to accommodate more rescheduled conferences than usual last October due to parents being out of town on trips with their children. If they have too many interruptions in the day, it diminishes the quality of what they are able to do.  When many parents use parent teacher conference days for trips and ask to schedule their conferences on other days, it creates an extra burden for the teachers.

So, I ask that you not use parent teacher conference days either in October or February as a vacation weekend if you also want parent teacher conferences.  As you plan your family activities both for this February and next October, please keep this in mind.  Thank you.
