All School Convocation

Students from Rowland Hall’s upper, middle and lower schools joined together in the first ever all-school, first-day convocation. The historical day began when Head of School Alan Sparrow looked across the McCarthey Campus commons filled with happy faces and reflected on the one-school future of RH. (And, yes, he had his puppets greet the children too!) Next, LS school students sang Alleluia, accompanied by our talented guitar-playing Chaplain Trace Browning.

Upper School Student Body President Michael Marquardt welcomed the students back with a look forward to a great year of new friendships, personal achievement and hard work during the school week.

Welcome to School!

Welcome back for the 2009-2010 school year. It looks to be the best year ever for so many reasons. This year we start with our highest opening day enrollment.  This is an incredible tribute to the magic that our teachers create in the classroom.  In this economic climate, most private schools have seen their enrollments drop.

On Wednesday, we had our first all school convocation in over 25 years.  It is the only time in my 18 years here that I have been able to look out upon the entire lower through upper school student body and all of the faculty and staff.  It was heart-warming.  This school is truly a community and it feels even more so now.

We are coming off a tremendously successful year in which our students won academic, athletic, artistic, chess, and debate awards.  We continued our tradition of having the highest percentage of national merit finalists in the state, our athletic teams won four state championships, two of our students placed at the national debate championships, 50 percent of last year’s seniors received merit scholarships to college, and the list goes on and on. ...
