Theatre

Theater at Rowland Hall is production driven, with each trimester offering one or more opportunities for students to participate in a theater production, through enrollment in a class which includes both in-class and after school rehearsal time. Students who are enrolled in a class may audition for a lead role. Our theatre classes offer everything from musical theater to drama and comedy, as well as the opportunity to be on the stage crew.

If singing, acting, and dancing are your passion the school musical is for you! Even if you’ve never been on stage, the musical theater class' presentation of the fall musical is a fun way to get your feet wet. Auditions and casting for lead roles are held during spring trimester prior to the November staging of the musical in the Larimer Center for the Performing Arts. Recent past productions have included Les Miserables, Fiddler on the Roof, Pippin, and Godspell. Our entire school community supports the school musical, with its delightful combined cast of middle and upper school actors, and is annually awed by the technical and directorial creativity of our teacher-director Gary Lindemann and his students. In November 2012 we are looking forward to Annie.

Six through twelfth graders are encouraged during 2nd trimester, to take Musical Theatre - Ragazzi, a class that undertakes non-musical theatrical productions – drama or comedy. Then during the spring trimester, Rag and Bone Theatre is a Middle School only company, encourages beginning, intermediate and advanced level actors to participate. Rag and Bone theatre undertakes plays designed for a very young (elementary age) audience.

Conservatory, also known as Rock, Paper, Scissors theater company, is a collaborative theatre company for committed Upper School students of theater who desire a more in-depth and challenging acting experience. And, finally, Stage Crew introduces students to the intricacies of working backstage in a theatrical, musical, or dance production. Students receive hands-on learning in lighting and sound, deck (stage) crew, and stage management.

Rowland Hall’s theater classes and productions often call for afterschool rehearsals for these students who are highly committed to the theatrical process. Everyone is encouraged to enjoy the artistic fruits of these thespians’ labors in the resulting productions through the school year.
