Our Response to the Earthquake Disaster in Haiti
We know that you are also following the disaster relief efforts in Haiti. In the Upper School, the student council is going to lead a campaign to collect money from students. Students will also wear red and blue ribbons around their wrists as a sign of solidarity with the people in Haiti. We ask and encourage parents to donate on line to the organization of your choice to support the emergency response effort.
Two organizations to consider supporting in the relief effort are:

The International Red Cross:

Doctors Without Borders:

Air Quality:
In recent years we have seen inversions, fires and other factors affect our outdoor air quality. RHSM is aware of the effects of poor air quality on children's health, and has instituted the following guidelines.
What will the school do?
Shirley Stevens RN, our School Nurse, continuously monitors the Particulate Matter (PM2.5) levels. This information will guide our outdoor physical activities.

  • When the PM2.5 level falls between 35.5 and 55.4, we will let "sensitive" students stay indoors.
  • When the PM2.5 level falls between 55.5 and 90, we will let "sensitive" students and students experiencing respiratory symptoms stay indoors.
  • When the PM2.5 level rises above 90, outdoor recess will be cancelled for all children.

What should parents do?
Parents, with advice from your health care provider, need to contact their principals or the School Nurse if your children are "sensitive" to poor air quality.

  • Sensitive children may include those with significant or poorly controlled asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic lung disease, congenital heart disease, compromised immune systems, or other respiratory problems.

For your information:
The daily PM2.5 level is located at www.airquality.utah.gov.
We are committed to providing a safe and healthy school for your child to learn. Please contact the school if you have questions about this issue.

The Lincoln St. Home & School Association General Meeting will be held in the Upper School Faculty Lounge on Tuesday, January 19th at 1:15pm.  All parents are invited to attend to hear updates from our administration, as well as enjoy social time.  Refreshments will be provided, but please bring your own coffee mug or water bottle.  See you there!  This is a once per trimester event.  We won't meet again until April!

Martin Luther King Day: 'A Day of Service'.  Please support your child in
committing to ONE or MORE hours of service this coming Martin Luther King
Day.  There are many options available from a small commitment like making
cookies for a neighbor or free baby sitting, to bigger commitments like
participating in the Food Bank MLK day or putting together some items
needed for a local non-profit organization.  Below are ideas and links for
possible service opportunities. Thanks for making this day a day to serve!

Students started off the year with a basic overview of the metric system and metric conversions to build their skills in measurement for the upcoming physics unit on work and simple machines.  The metrics quiz occurred last Friday, and students have until Tuesday, January 19th to complete optional quiz corrections to potentially improve their grade.  Students also received their physics textbook this week.  The textbook is meant to be utilized as a resource at home (therefore, does not need to brought to and from school).  The textbook can be used for additional clarification on topics discussed in class as well as for students who are absent during lecture.
