Why Use a Database Instead of Google?

WHAT IS A DATABASE?

A database is a collection of organized records that contain data, information, abstracts, full-text articles, images, statistics, etc. that can easily and quickly be accessed electronically.

  • Many databases contain magazines, academic journals, newspapers from all over the country and world,  They also include books, reference resources, images, videos and more.
  • Most of the resources in a database charge a fee to access copyright material --therefore they are more authoritative.
  • Resources are credible and have been through many edits and/or peer reviewed.
  • Most authors are experts in their field or have done extensive research on the subject matters.
  • Publishers of books have been around for many years as opposed to webpages where anyone can publish anything.
  • Searching a database is QUICKER because it’s specific to a subject area and you do not have to evaluate the resource -- it’s already been evaluated for you.
