Steiner Library on McCarthey Campus
Welcome to the Steiner Library at Rowland Hall
We serve students, parents, faculty, and staff of the Beginning School and Lower School at the McCarthey Campus on 720 Guardsman Way in Salt Lake City, Utah.
BIRTHDAY BOOKS:
A Rowland Hall tradition is to donate a new book to the library on your birthday. The donor’s picture is put on display on the bulletin board in the library, and a book plate is placed inside the book. This is a great way to celebrate birthdays in a charitable and fun manner.

Mission
The mission of the library program is to ensure that students become effective users of ideas and information. The three components of the program include information literacy, literature, and media literacy. The goal is to equip students for the joy of life-long learning.
Library Resources
Our collection includes more than 18,000 items. Available for checkout are books, maps, big books, audio tapes, CD's, DVD’s, videos, posters, and magazines.
Parent/Professional Resources
In addition to materials for the students, we offer parenting and professional resources.
Lost and Late Book Policy
There are no fines for late books. We will send home reminder notes with a child if the book is not returned in a timely fashion. If the book is lost, the family will be expected to pay for it or replace it by the end of the school year. The student’s yearbook will be withheld until the family has taken care of a lost book.
Volunteering
Many Rowland Hall parents and grandparents enjoy volunteering in the Steiner Library. It is an enjoyable way to be involved in the school, be around children and contribute in a valuable and appreciated way. If you are interested, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Susan Chortkoff.
The job entails shelving, cleaning, repairing, and covering books. There are often other ongoing projects such as weeding the collection or pulling books for special units.
Since the library relies on our volunteers, there are some expectations.
1. Please schedule yourself to volunteer once a week.
2. If you are unable to come, please find a sub and/or notify the volunteer coordinator and Becky Hall.
3. Come to the training meeting at the beginning of the year. If you sign up later, please make an appointment to be trained.
4. We love children, but can only accommodate those attending Rowland Hall. Please arrange care for younger children.
