Lower School

The Curriculum at the Center . . .

Each classroom teacher teaches the core curriculum and their small classes allow for engaging discussions and collaboration. The Lower School’s rich literary surroundings help develop and reinforce reading and writing fundamentals while a well-balanced math program focuses on both conceptual thinking and computational skills. Children enjoy hands-on science investigation and learn social studies from multi-cultural perspectives. . . .

“It’s great to see kids walk in to school with a spring in their steps and smiles on their faces,” says Deborah Mohrman, Principal of the Lower School. “And as a teacher, there’s nothing better than talking with a child who has learned something new and seeing them excited about school.”

. . . and the Specialty Curriculum

A Lower School child’s day is full of active learning. Our exceptional specialty program brings learning to life in the art, music, Spanish, the library and computer lab, chess, physical education, and science. Additionally, the artist-in-residence program brings professional actors, musicians, and artists to the school for workshops at each grade level.

Connecting with the Community

Continuing the community-oriented ethos instilled in the Beginning School, service learning in the Lower School means reaching out to the community, serving local agencies such as the Utah Food Bank, Tree Utah, Shriners’ Hospital, Navajo Santa, and Tracy Aviary.

Before and After School

The Extended Day program offers parents an option for child-care and students a fun, safe, and educational experience. The program is available before school each morning, and after school when enrichment classes are offered. Classes include piano lessons, computer lab, martial arts, art, chorus, chess, Spanish, golf, and others

Winter Sports

One of our best-loved and longest running traditions is the Winter Sports program – five Friday afternoons in January and February in which first through twelfth grade students and faculty engage in a variety of recreational activities. Among the choices are alpine and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, rock climbing, archery, indoor soccer, gymnastics, creative dance, and swimming.

And then, there's Rowmark for Passionate Young Skiers

Rowmark Ski Academy, one of a handful of elite ski academies in the country, is a stellar program of our school and offers two options for children in first grade and older. The goal of the Love To Ski Program is to encourage young skiers as they develop their skills on the slopes, two days a week from mid-December through mid-March. They do not race, placing emphasis on free skiing a wide variety of terrain at Park City Mountain Resort, home of many alpine events during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Fourth and fifth grade members of the Rowmark Jr. Team spend over 40 days on the slopes. Dryland conditioning camps and competition in the United States Ski Association’s Youth Ski League (YSL) round out the experience for Rowmark Jr. Team members.
