Chapel

Monthly chapels honor a variety of holy days and religious festivals reflecting the richness and diversity of our faith traditions.

Service Learning

Meaningful community service is an integral part of the learning experience in Middle School. Students participate in all-school efforts, service opportunities organized by small groups of students, and service learning to supplement and enrich their academic studies. Examples of recent service learning experiences include the eighth grade’s work on raising awareness about homeless youth; the seventh grade’s working with adult refugees learning English as part of their world studies’ focus on refugees; the sixth grade’s tutoring of young students at Lincoln Elementary School, where our students share their science lessons with their younger friends through hands-on activities.

Student Council

The Middle School Student Council is designed to provide opportunities for student participation in planning and leading activities and community service projects in an environment that supports and encourages the development of positive leadership skills. Students can participate by running for a year-long term of office. All offices are open to students in grades six through eight.

Class Trips

Each year Middle School students participate in class trips, which often extend the school curriculum outside the classroom, help students and their new teachers to know each other better, and allow new students to become better integrated into the class. Examples of class trips include a two-night stay at Camp Tuttle in Big Cottonwood Canyon in Salt Lake City, Utah, a four-night stay at Teton Science School in Jackson, Wyoming, and a four-night trip to Washington D.C.

Winter Sports

Middle School students participate in the Winter Sports program, which begins in mid-January and continues for five Friday afternoons. After a shortened academic schedule, students and faculty participate in alpine skiing, snowboarding, bowling, tennis, archery, rock climbing, squash, or cooking. (Offerings subject to change.)
