Margot Miller

Margot Miller

Titles: Seventh-Grade World Studies Teacher
Degree(s): BA, Anthropology/Sociology, Lewis & Clark
Biography:

Margot joined the Rowland Hall Middle School in 2002 as the seventh-grade world studies teacher. She graduated from Lewis & Clark with a BA in anthropology/sociology and a religious studies minor in East Asian religions. Her passions have always included travel combined with outdoor adventures. During college she spent a year studying in India, learning Hindi and working with nongovernment organizations, setting the stage for a later return to teach. Her teaching career was inspired by teaching English as a second language while living in Costa Rica after college. Upon returning to California, she was offered her first teaching position at Squaw Valley Academy as a high school Spanish and geography teacher and alpine ski coach. It was there that she met her husband, Travis Mickelson, and their adventures in international schools began. They taught for two years in southern India at the Kodiakanal International School, located in the state of Tamil Nadu, and then moved to Switzerland to teach at the International School of Geneva. They later moved to Salt Lake City, where Margot has continued her studies and teaching of global education; she earned a Global Competence Certification through graduate-level courses launched by World Savvy and the Asia Society, with a field study focus in Colombia. Inspiring the desire to better understand the complexities and beauty of our interconnected world is her goal.

Travis and Margot have two lovely children, and they are a family that loves being together in the outdoors, skiing, climbing, surfing, mountain biking, and exploring the world.

Margot was the recipient of the Middle School's 2009 Sumner Family Excellence in Teaching Award.
