Biography:

Daniel is a native of Canada and joined the Rowland Hall faculty in 2019. He has a history BA from Weber State University, an MA from the University of Arizona, and a PhD in European history from Yale University. While studying in Utah, Dan worked as the Tasty’s Donut mascot at Grizzlies games in the E-Center, skating around the ice between periods and wrestling with Grizzbee in the owner’s box. In 2014 Dan was a Fulbright Scholar in Switzerland, studying noble identity and the birth of political corruption in Europe. While at Yale, Daniel became a fellow with Yale’s Center for Teaching and Learning, where he led workshops, provided teaching consultations, and organized conferences on pedagogy. He also took up whittling for five minutes before a trip to the emergency room and eight stitches brought this hobby to an abrupt end. During his graduate work, Dan taught courses at Fairfield University and worked as the museum educator at the Yale University Art Gallery, teaching students of all ages about art and art history. Daniel has three children with his wife, Rebecca, and enjoys car repair, woodworking, golf, hockey, physics, and lots of other stuff.
