Biography:

Shauna Brand received her bachelor’s degree in theatre at Weber State University and her master’s degree in teaching with a theatre emphasis at Westminster College. Shauna has studied comedy with People’s Improv Theatre (NYC) and workshopped with improv groups The Groundlings (LA) and Upright Citizens Brigade (NYC). She is a Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) and Utah Shakespeare Festival high school competition award-winning director.

Shauna has been directing in various community and school settings since 1994 and has been acting since she was a kid. Besides teaching at Rowland Hall, she teaches for Youth Theatre at the University of Utah and has done so for well over a decade. Shauna has also taught off and on for several decades in preschool through college settings. Shauna is a local playwright and has been a playwright in residence for Wasatch Theatre Company. Besides playwriting, she also writes sketch comedy for Improv Salt Lake's comedy sketch show.

Shauna is the founder of SpeaKeasy Theatre Company (STC), her labor of love. At the Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival, STC produced The Kitchen Sink, which Shauna wrote and directed; it won Outstanding Ensemble. Also at the Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival, STC produced The Advantageous Adventures of Mrs. Meddlesome: The Curse of the Tomb, another show Shauna wrote and directed, which won Outstanding Family Friendly Production. She is now in the midst of the second draft of her newest play and can’t wait to share it with others.
