Biography:

Ryan joined the Rowland Hall community in August 1999. In the past, he served as the Upper School assistant principal from 2008 to 2015 and the academic support counselor on the Lincoln Street Campus until 2008. He has also served as debate head coach and taught political science and ethics and world religions. Ryan earned his BS in political science and his master's in education from the University of Utah. He received the Utah High School Activities Association’s Distinguished Service Award in 2007, the Carol Lynn Ross Award in 2012 for his work with elementary and middle school debate, and the Marquardt Award for Faculty Development in 2014. He was inducted into the Utah Debate Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2015. Ryan and his wife, alumna Libby Mitchell ’92, adopted their daughter, Mary Ellen Grace (Meg), in July 2009; she is currently a junior at Rowland Hall.

Ryan was the recipient of the Upper School's 2004 Sumner Family Excellence in Teaching Award.
