Biography:

Mike coaches the middle and upper school debate teams and teaches political science in the History Department. Mike came to Rowland Hall in August 2007 after teaching at Weber State University. He received a bachelor of science in political science from Weber State University and a master of arts in rhetoric from Pepperdine University. He has traveled all over the United States attending collegiate and high school debate tournaments, and serves in a variety of community leadership positions (Utah High School Activities Association representative, chair of the GSL District, and executive board member of the National Debate Coaches Association). Mike and his wife, Carol, have two sons, Lucas and Ethan. His other interests include politics, golf, and table tennis. Some of his other accolades include 2017–2018 National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) State Educator of the Year for Utah, 2016 National District Chair of the Year for his leadership in the NSDA, and 2019 Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) Distinguished Service Award winner.

Mike was the recipient of the Upper School's 2015 Sumner Family Excellence in Teaching Award.
