Biography:

Bret holds a doctorate of musical arts in trumpet performance from Arizona State University. As a trumpet soloist, he has won several competitions, including the International Trumpet Guild Solo Competition and the Music Teachers National Association Brass Solo Competition, and has performed throughout much of Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East, and Asia. Active as a freelance trumpeter, Bret has performed regularly with the Utah Symphony, the Ballet West Orchestra, the Sun Valley Symphony, and other musical organizations in the Salt Lake area. Before beginning his work at Rowland Hall in 2005, he was assistant professor of trumpet at Brigham Young University and the director of bands and music department chair at the Waterford School in Sandy, UT. When not blowing his horn, he enjoys mountain biking, hiking, snowboarding, and camping.

Bret was the recipient of the Middle School's Sumner Family Excellence in Teaching Award in 2014 and the UHSAA's Music Educator of the Year award in 2018
