Biography:

April Nielsen came to Rowland Hall in 2002 after teaching fourth grade for four years in public school and then owning and operating her own daycare/preschool program for seven years. She earned her master of education in learning and instruction with a special focus in literacy and diversity in 2002. April loves teaching first grade and helping students learn to read, and was previously Rowland Hall's literacy and academic support specialist from 2019 to 2020. She is the lead mentor in the Lower School and part of our Instructional Coaching Program. April loves reading and is one of the founding members of the Rowland Hall Teachers’ Book Club. She loves taking long early morning walks with her dog, Mojo, and enjoys traveling with her family, gardening, and spending time near the ocean.

April was the recipient of the Lower School's 2012 Sumner Family Excellence in Teaching Award.
