Biography:

Katie has become a mainstay at Rowland Hall after working nine years in the Beginning School and another 11 in the Lower School. Before Rowland Hall, Katie worked in the business world as a technology trainer for adults in the medical care profession. Katie recognized that her strengths as a teacher and kid-at-heart mentality would best be served working as an educator. Katie prides herself as knowing how to best empower students with a growth mindset in order to develop a constructive relationship with making mistakes. In Katie’s classroom, you will hear students celebrating their mistakes and formulating plans to learn from them.

In her personal life, you will find Katie decompressing in a hot power yoga class or working on her golf swing on the links. She is the mother of two amazing children, Alexa (RH ’19) and Zach (RH ’22), and a chubby cat, Hazel, whose antics are well known by Katie’s past students. She has a special connection to the school: her late mother, Susan Freed Eck, graduated from Rowland Hall in 1960. Rowland Hall has become a second home to Katie, and she feels honored to be a part of this incredible community.

Katie was the recipient of the Beginning School's 2008 Sumner Family Excellence in Teaching Award and the 2017 Robert Norris Excellence in Education Award.
