Middle School Course Description

Extension Course | Full Year | Open to all MS Students

This is the middle school’s central string ensemble - sometimes known as the “Stringed Lions.” Violinists, Violists, Cellists, and Bassists of any level are welcome. We learn and build strong fundamental skills such as bowing, intonation, shifts, and tone. This is a performance-centered class with an emphasis on music literacy. The orchestra performs a variety of pop and classical repertoire at concerts and assemblies. Many of our pieces are collaborations with upper-school orchestras. Students with no string experience are welcome but are strongly encouraged to take private lessons during the summer prior to joining the orchestra. This is a year-long commitment.
