Extension Course | One Semester (Spring) | Open to seventh- and eighth-grade students only
The Model United Nations course provides students with a unique opportunity to learn about global problems and international relations while roleplaying as delegates for different countries. Students will actively research, write, and debate proposals on world issues while simulating the committees of the UN. Students will develop skills in public speaking, critical thinking, problem-solving, cultural competency, diplomacy, and leadership. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: articulate the foreign policy of the different countries, define the structures of the United Nations, describe important forces affecting the international political system, analyze current events, and understand how to use negotiating techniques common to UN delegates. Beyond the classroom simulations, students will also be invited to attend official conferences and competitions.
