Facilities

Rowland Hall is equipped with facilities that support the athletic pursuits of our students.

These include two gymnasiums, multiple sports fields and courts, and a fitness center.

With a commitment to delivering a comprehensive and safe athletic experience, Rowland Hall provides students with the best possible equipment and resources to excel in their chosen sports.

Steiner Campus Fields

Completed in 2014, Rowland Hall’s two synthetic turf fields serve as home to our middle and upper school soccer teams and as a hub for athletics and community play. These fields support daily practices, games, and training, with sweeping views that enhance the experience for players and spectators alike.

The regulation competition field and adjacent practice field are designed for both soccer and lacrosse. The competition field features tiered stadium seating for hundreds of spectators, well suited for games, tournaments, and community events.

When not in use by Rowland Hall teams, the Steiner Campus Fields are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To inquire about reserving the fields, visit our Field and Facility Rentals page.

Sparrow Field House

Named for Rowland Hall’s 19th head of school and his wife, the Alan C. and Nancy M. Sparrow Field House honors our former head learner’s lifelong commitment to athletics and his many contributions to our community.

Alan and Nancy Sparrow joined the Rowland Hall community in the summer of 1992. Over the next 28 years, Alan oversaw the development of a more diverse and inclusive student body, the growth of preeminent academic and cocurricular programs, and the construction and renovation of multiple campus facilities, including the opening of the McCarthey Campus in 2002 and the Steiner Athletic Fields in 2014.

The Den

Located on the Lincoln Street Campus, the Den is the primary gymnasium for Rowland Hall’s middle and upper school athletics. With retractable stadium seating for up to 300 spectators, the space supports practices, games, and school events, creating a lively setting for competition and community gathering.

The gym includes boys and girls locker rooms with showers and team space, six retractable basketball hoops, and three volleyball nets, offering flexibility for multiple sports and daily training. Designed to accommodate both practice and competition, the Den supports a wide range of athletic needs throughout the school year.

True to its name, the Den is a place where students build skills, confidence, and connection through athletics. More than a gymnasium, it is a shared space that reflects school pride and the role athletics play in student life at Rowland Hall.
