A roster of 35 players convened at the start of the season, including 12 very promising freshmen. The varsity team was led by captains Fran Fierro, Noa Fukushima, and Jameson Moore.

The team opened the regular season against three non-region opponents, winning the season opener against West Valley APA, but then losing to both Juan Diego and Judge Memorial. Despite the two losses to 4A opponents, performances suggested that a new young team could do well in region play. That proved to be the case as the team progressed steadily throughout the regular season. A team that frequently featured five or more freshmen in the starting lineup won eight of its nine region games, losing only to Maeser Prep. Highlights of the regular season included late winners by Tatum vonLintel and Javi Fierro against Waterford and St Joe’s, respectively. The team finished second in the region. An overall win/loss record of 9-3 also resulted in the Winged Lions being the #3 seed for the state tournament.

After a narrow win over Enterprise in the Round of 16, the team improved significantly in an 8-5 win over St. Joe’s in the quarterfinal. Up next was Waterford in the semifinal at Zion’s Bank Stadium. In a game that ebbed and flowed, Rowland Hall scored the winner in the second overtime period, with Miles Li scoring his second in a 2-1 win over the Ravens. The final pitted the Winged Lions against Maeser Prep, the 2025 champions who were also undefeated in 2026. Despite a close game in many respects, Maeser used their experience and took their chances at key moments in the game, emerging 3-0 winners. However, the Rowland Hall team can be very proud of its efforts in the final and throughout the season. Steady progress was the name of the game for a young team that should be looking forward with excitement to the 2027 season.

Several players were honored at the year-end banquet. Fran Fierro won the MVP award, while Jameson Moore and Miles Li were selected as Defensive MVP and Offensive MVP, respectively. Noa Fukushima won the Coaches’ Award for his outstanding contribution to the soccer program for four years. Noa, Fran, Jameson, and Miles were also selected to the All-Region Team. Harry Barkes, who was promoted from the JV team to varsity early in the season, was selected as the Most Improved Player.

Special thanks to all assistant coaches for their contributions. Scott Langone returned to the program after a six-year absence and his coaching experience played a key role in guiding a young team to a state final. Simon Logue returned to Rowland Hall for the first time since his playing days for the Winged Lions and did a great job with the JV team, whose performances and results improved significantly as the season progressed. Special thanks also goes to Nico Edgar, another Rowland Hall alum, for his contribution and enthusiasm as volunteer assistant coach for the JV team (and for the German lessons).

I would like to thank Zack and the team in the athletics office, school administration, faculty, and staff for all of their support throughout the season. I would also like to thank parents for their support, with special thanks to Phuong Bodeen and Tammy Fukushima as Booster Club liaisons. Finally, I would like to thank all of the players for making this an enjoyable season, with particular thanks to our eight seniors for their contributions to the soccer program: Alex Alfaro, Baker Campsen, Jacob Conover, Noa Fukushima, Ocky Moyle, Asher Orenstein, Sawyer Orgain, and Owen Taylor.
