Before getting into results, I’d like to thank the parents, assistant coaches, and seniors on the team who played an integral role in rebuilding our record board this season. All seniors on our team are part of school records this season! Captain Joe Cashiola broke the 100m and 200m school record and also placed 8th in the 100m at the 2A state meet. Our 4x100m girls team broke their record with three seniors on the squad: Captain Amelie Tan, Fanni Ventilla, and Rylee Boyd. Other school record holders include junior Bronwyn Andrus in the discus and 2A state champion junior Ollie Wakefield in the pole vault. Other standout performances include sophomore Mina Bailey, who won all four of her events at the Region 17 Championships and received 2A state meet podium finishes in the 100m (6th) and 200m (3rd). Mina was also the anchor leg of our school-record-holding 4x100m relay team.

The weather this spring created excellent opportunities for training and performing. Those athletes who were able to consistently attend and participate in practice reaped the rewards. Take a look at our season rankings, with almost every athlete achieving personal records (PR) in their events. Albeit, some of our athletes this year are freshmen with their first results ever; however, even within their freshmen season, they saw improvement throughout the spring.

Mina Bailey won every event that she competed in at the Region 17 Championships. All four events! The years of work she has dedicated to track and field (winter, spring, and summer) and the positivity and enthusiasm she has for the sport have propelled her to these achievements. Did I mention she is a sophomore? Mina left the 2A state meet with the most hardware for our team, finishing 6th in the 100m and 3rd in the 200m. Both events had close finishes. Mina left the podium of the 100m feeling frustrated about her performance, and was able to push through those feelings to finish stronger than the cluster at the line for the 200m.

Joe Cashiola earned his place at his first finals for the 2A state meet in both the 100m and 200m. By finishing 8th in the 100m, Joe brought home a well-deserved medal and a place on the podium.

Ollie Wakefield competed in the long jump, high jump, 100m hurdles, and pole vault. He started his meet with a gold medal in pole vault, then moved on to the 100m hurdles, where he took an early fall without the opportunity to recover from it. The next day, he competed in the high jump and finished in 8th place, a podium finish.

Senior Amelie Tan ran 2:38 in the 800m at the 2A state meet. Ever the fierce competitor, Amelie put it all on the line and ran 3 seconds faster than her PR that she set just 10 days prior. She was able to compete in three other events as well, racing with her fellow seniors Fanni Ventilla and Rylee Boyd in the 4x100m, running a 200 leg in the medley, and running in the 4x400m.

Freshman Brooke Schnaitter finished 11th in the 3200m, an 8-lap race. She showed grit and bravery by setting an ambitious pace and holding it for a half mile longer than she had all season. While the result wasn’t what we hoped for, Brooke still was able to compete in four events at the 2A state meet in her first year. She also raced in the 1600m and with her teammates in the 4x400 and medley.

Freshman Allison Berry was the fourth member of the 4x100m relay. She also ran individually in her best event, the 400m. Similar to Brooke, Allison didn’t get the result she hoped for. The state meet is a brand-new experience and doesn’t define a season. I am confident that with the four-event experience both Brooke and Allison had at state this year, they will be coming back stronger and more confident than ever next year.

Our boys team was also able to compete in two relay events. All of our team members were freshmen and sophomores. It was such a fantastic opportunity for our boys team to get inspired and see what they will be able to accomplish in coming seasons. Our relay members were sophomores Miles Kiburtz and Luke Gagan and freshmen Rohan Pani, Mattias Tarquino, Cian Ladrido-McHugh, Robby Wade.
