Rowmark Academy’s Junior Program had an incredibly successful season. Our student-athletes have competed in many local, regional, national, and even international competitions over the last three months and raced to numerous personal bests.
The Rowmark Junior Program has qualified many athletes to their respective championship events. “I’m so proud of our team's success at our championship events. The success is a reflection of the hard work of the athletes, on and off the hill, as well as, the strong community support from their parents and Rowland Hall”, said program director Troy Price.
During the Rowland Hall spring break, including St. Patrick’s Day, the athletes collected gold at every race. See below for details.
U14 Western Regional Championships - Our athletes competed against the best U14's in the western states at the U14 Western Region Championships held in Alpine Meadows, CA. Perseverance through tough and inconsistent conditions led some athletes to their best finishes of the season at this event. Congratulations to the athletes who qualified and competed in this race: Mary Bocock, Dagny Brickson, Lindley Friedman, Nick Orfanakis, and Harry Hoffman.
Mary Bocock: 1st in Super G, 1st in GS, 1st in Slalom, 1st in Skills Quest, qualified for U16 Nationals in Sugarloaf as the fastest U14 woman in the Western Region.
Nick Orfanakis: 8th in Super G, 3rd on second run of slalom w/hike first run, 5th first run GS then fell the second run. Incredible skiing and capable of hitting the podium in every event.
Lindley Friedman: 8th in GS, 3rd on the first run of slalom and straddle second run. Confidence kept building and skiing kept getting faster and faster!
Dagny Brickson: 3rd in Skills Quest. Solid skiing throughout series but lost a ski in her best event, Slalom, on first run. Watch out world Dagny has slalom turns that will crush!
Harry Hoffman: 17th in Super G, 2nd for first year U14's. The wild man had incredibly fast turns including a front flip plus yard sale and a straddle leaving a nasty welt. Harry Hoffman has the speed in all events!
U14/U16 Tri-Divisional Championships - Jimmy Bocock qualified for the Tri-Divisional Championships at Snowbird and dominated! Along with winning all three races, Super-G, GS and SL, Jimmy took the overall title for the series! Garrett Glasgow and Gus Percy achieved personal bests at this championship this race. Congratulations to all of the athletes who qualified: Jimmy Bocock, Charlotte Altman, Sadie AbuHaidar, Kate Altman, Garrett Glasgow, Gus Percy, Ford Hodgkins, and Ian Hanrahan.

The U10’s came out strong with a GOLD from Jack Hoffman in the GS and 5th place from Copper Percy. The U12’s skied to some personal bests against a tough field with the top kids from Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. Arden Louchheim ripped some amazing runs to finish 2nd in the GS dual on Sunday. YSL Champs - One of the larger groups of the Junior Program, the AMRs had a fantastic season competing in many South Series and Youth Ski League (YSL) competitions throughout the Wasatch Range. The YSL Championships held in Brianhead, UT was very successful for the Rowmark athletes. They demonstrated their progress by skiing to their ability level and beyond. Sophia Hijjawi collected another GOLD in the SL on Sunday, and earned the overall title. This was a remarkable race with seven of the ten Rowmarkers on the podium, and the entire team supported by parents and loved ones.
IMD Finals – Once again Rowmarkers collected GOLD at the IMD finals hosted in Snowbasin, UT. Frank Stearns won the SL for the U14 SL, Cael Eley won the U10 GS on Saturday, and Ben Urwin finished 4th in the GS.

We still have a few more spring races on our schedule. Mary Bocock qualified for Nationals held at Sugarloaf Maine March 31-April 4. The 8th graders will ski in a spring series at Snowbird on April 8-12. Kate Altman, Ford Hodgkins, and Ian Hanrahan have been invited to a Divisional Development Camp on April 7-10, in Grand Targhee, WY. Our season will conclude with our annual awards banquet on April 20th. On June 10th, our athletes will be back on snow for our summer ski camp in Mammoth CA.
Special thanks to all the parents for providing a supporting and fun community as we focus on improving skiing skills, enjoying time with classmates, providing professional coaching, and fostering a lifelong appreciation for skiing while utilizing ski racing as a tool to teach many life lessons.
