Boys Tennis

A Powerhouse Tradition

Rowland Hall’s boys tennis program is truly a powerhouse. With 19 state and 20 region championships, the program has dominated the competition for decades.

Beyond mastering the fundamentals of the game, our coaching staff focuses on developing the mental strength necessary to compete at the highest level. We emphasize the little things that distinguish a good player from an exceptional one. Our program also instills lifelong values of hard work, commitment, and perseverance, and encourages equal success in the classroom.

Rowland Hall boys and girls tennis coach Rich Francey speaks during practice.

Meet the Coach

Rowland Hall's boys tennis team is coached by one of the winningest coaches in Utah High School Activities Association history, Rich Francey. After 10 state championships with the team between 1991 and 2004, Rich moved to Southern California, where he worked for some of the biggest names in tennis, including Prince, Babolat, and Nike. After returning to Utah, Rich resumed his coaching role at Rowland Hall, seeking to add to his already impressive coaching record.

Winged Lion Legacy

As the winningest program in Rowland Hall history, there is a lot to reflect on: from the first interscholastic boys tennis team in 1962 to the team's seven consecutive state championships between 1990 and 1996, and their many tournament runs in the 2000s and 2010s. Take a look back at the history of boys tennis at Rowland Hall.
