Mark Oftedal, head cross country coach for the Winged Lions, was recently selected, by vote of the Coaches’ Association, as the 2022 2A Cross Country Coach of the Year!
This season, Mark coached our boys cross country team to its 10th consecutive region championship and a fourth-place finish at state. Since taking the reins of the cross country program in 2007, Coach Oftedal has led the boys team to three state titles and those 10 Region championships, and the girls program to two state titles and eight region championships. He has also coached two runners to individual state championships, with both athletes running to the title two years in a row.
