Male Aligned Volleyball
Coaches: Jill Gerber and Garrett Stern
This spring, 24 Winged Lions challenged themselves in the sport of volleyball. Open to learning, inclusive, and supportive of their teammates, the players made considerable strides in developing their technical skills and working as a team to execute these skills in a game setting. Without an outside league in place, we ended our season with a competitive round-robin tournament where the boys also learned how to officiate, down ref, and line judge. The coaches were proud of the players’ growth, willingness to take risks, and teamwork. With the coming addition of boys volleyball at the varsity high school level, the players could be the foundation of a new sports tradition at Rowland Hall.
Cross Country
Coaches: Mary Lawlor and Sara Donnelly
Our Middle School cross country team had a great season! Our runners were pumped to run in five races, especially after missing two seasons of meets due to COVID. Coaches Mary Lawlor and Sara Donnelly loved watching each runner improve throughout the season, and several racers earned top-10 finishes! Way to go, Rowland Hall Middle School cross country team! You are one tough group of kids.
Female Aligned Soccer
A Team
Coaches: Scott Lagone and Campbell Ainsworth
Our A team had a fantastic season this year. Players began the year during the soccer elective working on developing fundamental skills and learning how to play together as a team. The team ended up finishing third place in the WAC tournament. It has been a lot of fun seeing the players develop and jell as a team this year, and we wish our eighth graders all the best as they transition to high school.
C Team
Coaches: Bobby Kennedy and Molly Lewis
On April 15, female aligned students hit the field running as part of our sixth-grade soccer team. The level of technical ability was varied, and we never really knew who was coming to the practice or the game, but that didn't deter the group from having a meaningful experience on route to the championship final.
We showed lion-hearted spirit while playing in all weather conditions in various formations, and steady progress was made throughout the season. The team finished with a 4-2-1 record, with a thrilling playoff overtime victory against local rival McGillis as the highlight of the season. Thanks to all who participated, and a special thanks to the caregivers for their flexibility. We hope that the students continue to enjoy the beautiful game.
