A heartfelt shout-out to Winged Lion Athletics Booster Club board members Erica Keil (president), Melanie Bates (treasurer), and Alexandra Von Maack (Middle School liaison) for the great service they have given to our athletics program throughout the 2021–2022 school year. The countless hours they have given on a volunteer basis to help make the athletics experience top-notch for the athletes who participate in our programs at both the upper and middle school levels is very much appreciated—their service continues to be invaluable!
A thank you to all the parents, families, and Rowland Hall Athletics supporters who chose to join the Booster Club this year—we were able to capture over 100 memberships! Your financial support allowed the booster board to fund numerous athletic department projects throughout the year: updated championship banners, sports calendar posters, pack-the-bleachers events, Middle School sports participation gifts, senior parent recognition gifts, a new refrigerator for the Athletics Department, and a $15-per-athlete donation toward Upper School end-of-season team celebration banquets, to name a few. Plans are in the works to use booster funds next year and beyond to help fund live-streaming of many home athletic events.
In addition, parent support in staffing the concession and ticket table for volleyball and basketball, as well as in supplying drinks for our athletes during each team’s season, was very much appreciated.
A special thank you to parents willing to spearhead each sport and serve as parent liaisons this year, most recently our spring sports liaisons: Akemi Louchheim, girls golf; Beth Jahn, track and field; Nancy McNally, boys tennis; Karey Barker, Amy Taylor, and Cyndi Baughman, boys soccer; and Kelly Cook, softball. Fall and winter sport liaisons were Sherri Connery and Kathy Kennedy, girls soccer; Ashley Boe, girls tennis; Sue Houden and Melanie Bates, volleyball; Beth Jahn, cross country; Allison Paradise, boys golf; Gwen Creel-Erickson, swimming; Anne Baranko and Melanie Bates, girls basketball; and Tanya Andrew and Wanda Parker Pillow, boys basketball.
Many thanks to everyone for helping to make the 2021–2022 year of Winged Lion Athletics a huge success. It takes a village to create something special—thanks for being there to make it happen! Looking forward to your continued support in 2022–2023. Happy summer, and GO WINGED LIONS!
