Horizons at Rowland Hall

Welcome to a summer that fuels their future.

Launched in 2025 as the first Utah affiliate of the Horizons National program network, Horizons at Rowland Hall supports students from Title I schools in the Salt Lake City public school district by offering a summer camp program designed to mitigate math and literacy loss between school years.

This fun six-week summer camp experience provides daily instruction in math and literacy as well as swim classes and other enrichment activities. Staff track students’ progress, which is shared with their schools to set them up for a successful school year.

Start the Day Strong

Every morning starts by helping students settle in and feel ready for the day ahead. After breakfast, the group gathers for opening circle, a moment to build relationships, share intentions, and set a positive tone for the day. Focused academic time follows, with a mid-morning snack and recess woven in to ensure students stay energized and learn at their best.

8:15–8:45 am: Breakfast

8:45–9 am: Opening circle

9–9:45 am: Math

9:45–10 am: Snack and recess

10–10:30 am: Literacy

Move, Refuel, Reset

After a morning of learning, students walk to a nearby pool for swimming lessons, then return to campus to enjoy lunch and recess. The pace then intentionally slows with a quiet reset, helping students recharge and transition smoothly into the afternoon.

10:30–11:45 am: Swimming

11:50 am–12:10 pm: Lunch

12:10–12:30 pm: Recess

Afternoon Explorations

With students refreshed and refocused, the afternoon begins with a return to core learning, followed by rotating specialty experiences that invite curiosity and creativity. Through hands-on options like tinker time, science gardening, robotics, yoga, dance, social-emotional activities, poetry, and even Rube Goldberg–style challenges, students explore new interests and learn by doing.

12:45–1:45 pm: Math and literacy

1:55–2:35 pm: Specialty rotation 1

2:35–3:10 pm: Specialty rotation 2

End the Day Well

The day winds down with space to pause and reconnect as a community. Story time and a closing circle give students an opportunity to reflect on the day, while end-of-day routines prepare them to head home feeling grounded and ready for another day of learning.

3:15–3:45 pm: Snack, story, closing circle, and cleanup
