Students

Student life at Rowland Hall is active, personal, and rooted in choice.

Each day, you’ll find opportunities to balance academics with friendships and interests beyond the classroom.

Whether you’re involved in a club, performing, competing, giving back to your community, or hanging out with friends, student life at our school is about exploring what you enjoy, trying new things, and building connections that last.

The Gazette

The Gazette, the Upper School’s student-run newspaper, is where students share what’s happening on campus and what’s on their minds. Founded during the 1981–1982 school year, and moving to a digital format in 2019–2020, The Gazette has been shaped by hundreds of student writers. Through news, features, opinion pieces, and creative storytelling, the paper offers an authentic look at student life and reflects the curiosity, voices, and perspectives of Rowland Hall students as they learn to report on and think critically about the world around them.

Tesserae

Tesserae is Rowland Hall’s nationally recognized literary magazine, created by students in the Upper School’s creative writing program. Filled with poetry, prose, visual art, and photography, Tesserae is both a culmination of the year’s artistic exploration and a lasting artifact of student voice, reflection, and experimentation. Each edition weaves together deeply personal perspectives and shared experiences, honoring the idea that individual pieces, like tesserae in a mosaic, gain meaning and brilliance when brought together.

Clubs

Students are empowered to come together after school hours for competitive athletics, vibrant arts programs, and a wide range of clubs and organizations centered around academic pursuits, recreation, and service. And if students can’t find what they’re looking for? They can form a club themselves.
