On Wednesday, September 20, at 3 pm, we ran a test of our Blackboard Connect emergency communication system for all divisions. Blackboard Connect allows us to communicate alerts via phone calls, text messages, and email based on the contact information we have on file. If you did not receive all three messages, please update your contact information by signing into the Parent Portal and clicking the Update Family Profile button under the My Household section.
It is critical that the school has accurate contact information for each parent/caregiver so that we may contact you in the event of an emergency.
Additionally, in our continued efforts to update and improve our safety procedures, we are pleased to announce the integration of CrisisGo as an integral component of our protocols. CrisisGo is an emergency communication system that fully aligns with the Standard Response Protocols (SRP) we began rolling out last school year. The CrisisGo app will be used by staff and faculty to initiate emergency procedures, send alerts, and quickly account for students during an emergency.
In this brief video, Dr. Chandani Patel, Director of Equity and Inclusion, offers an overview of how the school approaches diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in alignment with its vision, mission, and values. Dr. Patel talks about the link between feelings of belonging and learning, the long-term benefits for students as they work across differences, and the school’s main areas of focus related to this work.
The Office of Equity and Inclusion is pleased to continue its series of educational resources to support our community's ongoing learning as it relates to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our first resource for the year is about positive social identity development and its importance to students’ ability to learn and thrive at school. The Middle School will be administering our fall Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing during the week of September 25. This is an adaptive assessment meaning the difficulty of each question is based on how well a student answers all the previous questions; as the student answers correctly, questions become more difficult, and if the student answers incorrectly, the questions become easier. While our curriculum is not oriented to teach to the test, the data gathered provides another piece of data in various content areas that can help inform our instruction, as well as inform teachers on where students are in their mastery of different content.
The students will be assessed in the fall and spring in three areas - math, reading comprehension, and language usage (e.g., grammar, writing mechanics). The results can help teachers know if individual students need help in a specific area and will therefore aid in guiding instruction in the classroom. The data will be gathered and compared to other assessment information throughout the year. We will also assess the students in the spring in an effort to measure growth; the spring results will be shared with families, stay tuned for more details in April.
If you are interested in learning more, here is an article written by NWEA on MAP.
Save the date! The Middle School Picture Day will be on September 28. Students may wear free dress this day, but must still be in compliance with the dress standards. If students are unable to get their photo taken on the 28 we will have a picture make up/retake day on October 19. Please see the flyer below for more information.

We will show movie shorts in the commons area, have games in the cafeteria, and basketball in the gym. We will serve some snack and drinks, but students should plan to eat dinner before coming. Also, please bring a water bottle as cups will not be provided.

To register for Personal Fitness, contact our Registrar, Caitlin Kennedy, at caitlinkennedy@rowlandhall.org

Save the date! Grandparents Day is Tuesday, November 21, this year. It is a wonderful day for our entire community, as grandparents and special guests have the opportunity to see what their students are up to. Invites will be going out soon. To update grandparent contact information, fill out the form at the button below.
The resource explains some key terms and frameworks, offers strategies for supporting students’ positive social identity development, and includes a few resources for further learning.
