We’d like to partner with you in helping your middle schooler understand that sarcasm can be hurtful and unhelpful in building healthy relationships, both at school and online. Recently, some students have shared that grade-level chat groups include “jokes” about classmates that feel more mean than funny, leaving kids unsure how to respond. Encourage your child to consider how their words might be received and to choose kindness when communicating. Remind them that jokes should make everyone feel included, not embarrassed or upset. Open conversations about how sarcasm affects others will help them build stronger, more positive relationships. These are conversations that we are having at school, and we would appreciate you following up at home - connecting it to your family values. Also, please remember to monitor your child’s device activity.
As part of our focus on improving students’ media literacy, we’ve partnered with The Social Institute in 6th grade. This gives ALL middle school families access to their toolkit — an online resource to help parents support their child’s use of technology. You can access it here using Rowland Hall’s login code: 41d87DF6999059. If you have questions or need support, reach out to Pam, Megan, or your child’s advisor. We’re here to support you in helping your child build healthy relationships with classmates and technology.
To view your child’s report, log in to the Parent Portal, click on the Reports tab next to your child’s photo, and then click on the Middle School Mid-Semester 2 Progress Report button.

Hey, I’m James, and I am a writing center consultant this year. I decided to join the writing center because I remember all the times I met with consultants in the past, and I decided I wanted to try and pass on the knowledge I had gotten from past seniors.
This year, I especially enjoyed meeting with juniors throughout the Ad Project in the winter. It was so impressive to meet with people in their brainstorming stage, and then see their work and the progression of their ideas through their papers! I look forward to meeting with any who want to talk through projects. I hope to see more people book appointments throughout the end of the year!
