And for rising 6th graders:
While we believe in the importance of play, we also know that middle school students need to continue to build their brains twelve months a year, not just during the school year. The more students read, the more their reading skills improve and their vocabulary grows. However, that is not the only benefit of reading. Reading has been shown to reduce stress, improve creativity, improve the brain’s flexibility and memory, and promote lifelong learning. Therefore, all Middle School students have grade level summer reading and assignments which are expected to be completed prior to the first day of school.

Rowland Hall's Upper School is partnering with Innovations Education to host an Academic Summer Bridge program. This program is for rising 9th graders who would benefit from support with the transition into high school. The goals of the Summer Bridge Program are to teach and review language arts, math, and/or executive function skills, all geared toward student success in the fall semester.
Classes are offered on July 30, 31 and August 5, 6 of 2025. Each class is limited to 12 participants. We have classes planned in either morning and afternoon time slots to hopefully fit with your student’s summer schedule.
Please see this document for a detail of the schedule.
