Roho Cheer!

Haven't seen the new cheer team? Come to the boys basketball game December 2nd!

This year Rowland Hall has come out with a cheer team. Pretty cool considering we've never had one here. The idea to start a cheer team surfaced at the beginning of last school year, but one of the team captains, Catherine Seagrave, who does competition cheer at Revolution Athletics, has wanted one since 6th grade. The other team captain, Luna Saad, did sideline cheer at her old school and helped the cheer team come to life! The head coach, Tascha Knowlton, who also did cheer in high school, helped start the team alongside the assistant coach Madame Bentley. It's exciting because, according to Ashley Draper, “Athletics can bring a community together physically and emotionally. Athletic departments know that filling seats at games is imperative for an energized atmosphere, but understanding how to accomplish that might be a more difficult task.”

The first time that Rowland Hall’s cheer team performed was at the pep rally on October 9th of this year; then later that night they cheered at the pink-out volleyball game. At that game, we got to hear all their fun chants supporting the Rowland Hall Winged Lions. Even with only five members on the team, their chants and cheers still filled the gym. The cheer team’s schedule will soon to be expanded to basketball games once a week, starting November 20th. As far as skills go, they hope to also begin stunting and tumbling for more entertainment and a fun challenge.

If you want to join Rowland Hall cheer, here’s how! You can email Tascha Knowlton or Effy Bentley. They practice Friday lunch and Tuesday after school. It’s a pretty small group and welcomes new people! “Follow our instagram @rh_cheerleading,” says Catherine Seagrave.
