A Legacy of Leadership: Mrs. Hill’s Path to Rowland Hall

We see how many things the Student Council does, but what actually happens behind the scenes to make those events possible? Let's dive in! Behind the scenes, there is one teacher who does more than just teach. She also runs the Student Council here at Rowland Hall. That teacher is Mrs. Hill. Let's take a closer look at all of the hard work and effort she puts into the Student Council and helping every student enjoy their time at Rowland Hall.

Before Mrs. Hill came to Rowland Hall, she spent 13 years working with Student Councils at other schools. She attended Virginia Tech, where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Mrs. Hill also taught at Lake Braddock Secondary, Marshall Academy, Woodson HS, John Champe HS, Potomac Falls HS, Flint Hill, and Corner Canyon. Some of her favorite parts about teaching at those schools were that there was a variety of environments to learn how different schools function, as well as different teaching opportunities. When we interviewed Mrs. Hill on one of her favorite teaching memories, she said, “When I left Woodson HS after five years, there was a standing yearly award given to a dedicated Student Council student in my name–that was really meaningful to me.” She uses experiences such as these from past schools to provide students here with the opportunity to be in Student Council and learn valuable life skills that they can use in the future.

Mrs. Hill first started teaching at Rowland Hall in 2024. She has gotten tips and experience from her last school that she still carries with her even here. Mrs. Hill taught several business classes here, such as principles of business and entrepreneurship, while also mentoring a business club.

The 2025-2026 school year is Mrs. Hill’s first year as director of the Student Council. Mrs. Hill has enjoyed using her past experiences with the Student Council to help her run events and oversee the students. When we asked Mrs. Hill which tactics worked best for planning, she said, “I use delegation, project management, and communication to manage plan-heavy events.” These planning tactics have proven successful, as she’s organized multiple Student Council activities such as homecoming, pep rallies, assemblies, and more! Through this, we can see how much planning goes into fun events for the school.

In this story, we have seen how much dedication Mrs. Hill brings to the school every day. She has worked hard to ensure that our school is a better place, and we can see that she is doing so. She makes sure that, as we grow academically, we also have room to make engaging and fun memories. We can appreciate how well Mrs. Hill has helped the Student Council come to life.
