The Traveling Receptionist

This year Rowland Hall welcomed a new receptionist to the main office, Lauren Domagas. She has joined us from the corporate world and is enjoying the better pace of life and strong community that we share. She is a prolific writer, who writes her own literature about different cultures and the preservation of their traditions. This passion for other communities derives from her love of traveling, she's been traveling since her sophomore year of college up until now.

Q: What made you want to work at Rowland Hall?

A: I like that everybody valued diversity here. And then I think when you interview somewhere, you can kind of get a feel for the culture of the environment, and everybody was really welcoming to me, and I had a really good feeling.

Q: What are some things you like to do outside of your job?

A: I play video games; I like to write, go on walks, and take road trips. I definitely want to get into more road trips.

Q: Have you been on a lot of road trips or not?

A: I had a road trip here when I moved. So that was fun. And with my boyfriend I want to visit all 48 states and do a three-month or even six-month trip around the U.S. I'd love to do something like a YouTube series on it and interview people in each state.

Q: Where specifically have you traveled around the world?

A:  France, India, the Philippines, Taiwan, Amsterdam, Italy, England, and Mexico when I was younger. I think that's it. But the places I've spent the most time would be France, then Taiwan, the Philippines, and then India. I stayed in India for a month.

Q: When did you start traveling?

A: It all really started my sophomore year of college when I did a study abroad trip to Taiwan, and then it escalated from there and I thought, “Okay, I just want to travel everywhere.”

Q: What would you say is your favorite place you've been to?

A: I think every place is really special, especially the places I've stayed the longest. I mean, France is kind of … an epicenter for art, culture, and writing. And then India is very special because you're very connected to the culture. I really wish I had spent more time there. But I think Taiwan actually has a very special place in my heart because … I feel like it's a very organized place, but everybody works together; the cities are very clean and beautiful, like Taipei. But also, of course, the Philippines because my grandma's there and I’ve spent a lot of time with her.

Q: Where did you live before moving to Utah?

A:  I'm from the Bay Area. I grew up there and then I was bouncing around for a while, and now I'm here.

Rowland Hall is very excited for Lauren to be a part of our community, especially with her views on welcoming different people and cultural diversity. She is always open to learning new things about places she hasn't been to yet, while also appreciating the beliefs and characteristics of different countries that she has explored. She’s always looking for conversations and new information with people here at Rowland Hall. Thank you for joining our Rowland Hall family.
