Junior Program

Participants must have prior ski racing experience; the Rowmark Junior Program is not a learn-to-ski program. Athletes should be comfortable skiing independently on groomed terrain and have some familiarity with race-style training (e.g., basic gates, structured coaching environments).

In addition to skiing ability, please note the following:

• The Rowmark Junior Program is open to Rowland Hall students in grades 1–8 (ages 6–14).
• Athletes should be ready for an after-school and weekend commitment, with increasing time on snow and competition focus as they progress.
• A willingness to participate in a team-oriented, school-aligned program that emphasizes sportsmanship, safety, and personal responsibility is essential.
• The long-term goal of the Rowmark Junior Program is to develop young athletes toward the highest levels of the sport—with the ultimate aim of preparing skiers to become Olympic champions, world champions, or NCAA Division I competitors—while fostering a lifelong love of skiing.

Our program’s overall athlete-to-coach ratio is 5:1. On-snow ratios range from 3:1 to 8:1, allowing us to adjust coaching support based on the training session, training environment, and athlete needs.

Junior Program training takes place after school and on weekends, depending on the grade level.

Fall dryland training occurs on campus as an extension of the school day. Winter on-mountain training takes place at the Spencer F. Eccles Olympic Mountain Center at Utah Olympic Park, Park City, and other IKON resorts.

Yes, transportation from school to the mountain and back (with the exception of local races) is included in the program cost. Note that buses do not operate when the Utah Department of Transportation requires 4X4 or chains; however, training will continue if it is safe for families to drive.

Rowmark’s Junior Program is a full-season alpine racing program designed for committed ski racers who meet enrollment requirements. The program runs throughout the school year and includes many more on-snow training days focused on competitive development.

In comparison, Rowland Hall’s Winter Sports program, open to all lower and middle school students, is a short-term enrichment experience that offers a range of winter activities, including freeskiing. Winter Sports is held one afternoon a week for five weeks in January and February.
